The Proof of Love…
In my last post I asked the question
How much are you willing to pay… to fulfill your destiny?
This question raised another question
How do I discover what I am to pay for?
In other words
How do I discover that thing that I am passionate about? That thing I am destined to do!!
While I was pondering on these questions some answers came which I would like to share with you.
Recently, I have been listening to 2 Minutes Wisdom on www.mikemurdock.com . In these 2 minute clips he expounds on a wisdom key from his book 365 Wisdom Keys of Dr. Mike Murdock. One wisdom key in that book reads
“The proof of love is the desire to give.”
As he expounded on this wisdom key, the Holy Spirit began to shed more light on it in a way that answered the questions I listed above. I will share my learning with you.
The proof that you love someone is your desire to give your time to that person. The proof of your love for a football team is your desire to spend money and/or time to watch all their matches. The proof of your love for your job is your willingness to spend time at the office even when you are done with your work for the day. The proof of love is your desire to give! Your desire and willingness to give!! To give time, give money, give attention, give yourself!!!
When I ask people what they are most passionate about most of them go blank. They don’t have the slightest idea of what that thing is. Another response I get quite frequently is that there are many things or not one thing in particular. It’s okay to give such a response but just as it is impossible to love two people equally, it is impossible to love two things in your life the same way. So the question is what do you love most. If that is still hard for you to answer use the Proof of Love Test. Ask yourself the following questions and write all your answers down.
What am I always willing and glad to spend my time doing?
What is that thing that I am willing to do even if I don’t get paid?
What is it that gives me joy and fulfilment anytime I finish doing it?
What am I willing to spend money lavishly on even when I have limited funds?
What is that thing I am willing to cancel previous appointments for the moment it pops up?
What is it that I am very willing to embark upon whenever the opportunity arises even after I get home fagged out after a hectic day’s job?
The questions can go on but by now I am sure you get the jist. As you keep asking these questions and writing your answers down, you would find out that certain activities keep recurring. These recurring activities are your passion, those things you probably were created for!!! Yes that simple. It may not be a religious activity so for those of us with religious minds don’t get discouraged. We have been called to show forth the glory of God in all we do… in every aspect of life. We have been called to be gods… gods in these areas of our passion. It is called your passion… your obsession, your excitement, your infatuation, your enthusiasm, your fevour, your zeal, your craze!!! All these nouns connote intense emotions, activities that set you fire, that burn inside you. In fact I can say your passion is that thing that sets you on fire!!!
I hope by now some activities or things you are passionate about are beginning to pop up in your mind. If nothing has popped up don’t get discouraged and think you don’t have one. I can bet my life that it is in there sitting unnoticed in a corner . It may be unnoticed due to either of two things
1. You have never taken time out to follow the little nudgings of your heart which are urging you to experiment in certain areas; or
2. You probably have seen it… you probably know is there but have refused to acknowledge it as anything of significance. You probably are thinking to yourself…
“What is this amongst so many?” Remember the parable of the talents (Matt 25:14-29)
“I am funny and so what? How will that bring food to my table?“
Alibaba (Father of Comedy in Nigeria) is bills in millions of Naira per appearance
“I like talking and so what?”
Fela Durotoye (leading motivational speaker in Nigeria)’s mouth has brought him before presidents and world reknowned business leaders
“I like writing short articles and so what?”

My dear friend please do not look down on any seemingly “insignificant” passion you have. If properly harnessed it would sustain you and give you and your family the dream life you have always desired. And for those who have their passion dormant, please explore! Don’t be scared to experiment. Remember TY Bello, the award winning Nigerian Photographer? She never knew she had photography in her until she go her first camera (I think it was given to her as a gift). She was willing to experiment and find out how far she could push it. Today, she is Nigeria’s No.1 portrait photographer. I understand she charges about N250,000.00 (over $2,000.00) per portrait session (I also understand you only get 2 or 3 pictures). Yours may be playing the piano, cooking, pottery, sewing or playing with makeup. Please don’t shove it aside. Explore it to the uttermost and you would be suprise what you can make of it. No successful man was born successful. He is successful only because he was willing to explore.
I believe that if you work on these suggestions I have given above, you would identify what you are meant to be paying the price for.
God bless you.
